On The Road: DC History Conference Panel

I’m very excited to announce that I’ll be moderating a panel at the Historical Society of Washington’s annual conference from on November 4 at the New York Avenue Presbyterian Church.

The session focuses on the Howard Theatre’s crucial role in the community before and after the 1968 riots and will feature Me, the author of Death At The Howard; Greg Gaskins and Jimi Smooth, two prominent D.C. R’n’B performers who started their careers at the Howard; The Reverend Dr. Sandra Butler-Truesdale, a long-time community activist who is the Chairperson of DC Legendary Musicians; and Blair Ruble, the author of Washington’s U Street:  A Biography.

All of the conference’s sessions will focus on the riots that swept the streets of Washington after the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King on April 4, 1968, examining the many ways  those days continue to shape the city and the nation.  Here’s everything you need to know to join us on November 4:

TIME: 1:30-3:00 PM

WHERE: New York Avenue Presbyterian Church @ 1331 New York Avenue, N.W.

Register to attend here.

Looking forward to seeing you there!
